JACKIE THE MUSICAL revisits those heady days, and tells the story of a fifty-something divorcée who revisits her stash of well-thumbed Jackie magazines for the same reason she first read them nearly forty years ago: advice on how best to navigate the opposite sex. The magazine supported and inspired those girls and, best of all, it was great fun. Angst ridden teenage girls waited with bated breath by the letterbox for their weekly issue of Jackie Magazine… unless their big sister got there first! Jackie accompanied millions of girls through their teenage years in the 70s and 80’s, years of boy trouble, ironing hair and problem solving from resident agony aunts, Cathy and Claire. Once there was a time with no mobile phones, no apps, no texting, no e-mails and no twitter. Gemma Archer, Matthew Barrow, Dominic Adam Griffin, Liam Paul Jennings, Ricky Johnston, Lacy Jordinson, Laura Mullowney, Anna Murray, Gemma Naylor, Adam Philpott, Anthony Starr and Hayley-Jo Whitney complete the cast.ĭesign is by Tim Shortall, with lighting by Philip Gladwell, musical supervision and arrangements by Ben Goddard, sound by Bobby Aitken and musical direction by Dan de Cruz. The cast also includes Daisy Steere as ‘Young Jackie’, Michael Hamway as ‘David’, Sam O’Hanlon as ‘Keith’, Tricia-Adele Turner as ‘Gemma’, Lori Haley Fox as ‘Jill’ and Bob Harms as ‘Frankie’. The musical will star Janet Dibley (The Two of Us/Guys and Dolls) as ‘Jackie’, Nicholas Bailey (The Invisible/EastEnders) as Max and Graham Bickley (Bread/Sunset Boulevard) as John. JACKIE THE MUSICAL opens at the Gardyne Theatre in Dundee on 10 March before visiting Coventry, Bromley, Bradford, Brighton, Edinburgh, Blackpool, Perth, Wycombe, Manchester, Birmingham, Stoke, Wimbledon, Dartford, Malvern, Liverpool, Sunderland, Inverness, Aberdeen and Glasgow. Former magazine Editor Nina Myskow joins the production as Editor-in-Chief and consultant, and heads up a brand new digital/online TV channel JACKIE TV. Launching in Dundee, the spiritual home of Jackie magazine and location of the first editorial offices, the tour of JACKIE THE MUSICAL is supported by Jackie publishers DC Thomson. Written by Mike James, with choreography by Arlene Phillips and directed by Anna Linstrum, JACKIE THE MUSICAL will begin a nationwide tour in Spring 2016 at the Gardyne Theatre in Dundee.
